Why Nutrition???
Why is nutrition so important? If you think about it…your skin protects your internal organs from the outside. It protects you from germs, toxins, that booger your kid wiped on your arm this morning…basically everything it comes into contact with. It’s like the cover you put over the grill to keep it from getting rained on, pooped on by birds, or all other possible things that can gunk up your grill. Your eyes have eyelashes and eyelids to protect them from dust, gnats, and allergens and your nose has beautiful nose hairs and snot that capture all the tiny, possibly harmful, particles that try to enter there.
Then there’s your mouth…..and if you’re like many Americans, you eat fast food, prepackaged, food, and drinks full of sugar and additives and words you can’t pronounce. While your digestive tract has defense mechanisms to protect you from bacteria found in food and water, it kind of has to do the best it can to nourish your body with what nutrients you provide it. And sometimes we don’t provide it much to work with. It reminds me of that commercial from the 90’s where the toddler puts his oatmeal in the VCR…. Of course the VCR was not meant to function when it’s full of oatmeal, just like we are not meant to function when fed artificial sweeteners and colors, additives, chemicals, and most of the ingredients found in fast, convenience, and prepackaged foods and drinks.
Nutrition is something I have always been interested in. There have been so many foods and diets that have reportedly been the best, then fallen out of grace, then back to the top again that I finally set out to figure out the truth. When the pandemic hit in 2020 and so many activities came to a screeching halt, I decided to go back to school. To learn as much as I could about nutrition and the human body so I could interpret the articles for myself and learn ways to feed myself and my family to optimize our health. With a full time job, two kids, and many many pets, it is still a struggle for me. But I decided to start this journey anyway, and want to take you all with me along the way. Here we GO!
Cheers!
